Other Solid Tumors
01 — Other Solid Tumours
Overview
Solid tumours are cancers that form in organs or other body tissues rather than in the blood or bone marrow. They can arise in many different parts of the body and may differ significantly in their biology and behaviour.
Some require a combination of local treatments and systemic medical treatment, while others may need a more specialised approach. The appropriate strategy depends on the tumour’s site, type, stage and individual biological characteristics.

Common Signs & Symptoms
-
01Symptoms vary depending on where the tumour develops
-
02An unexplained lump, swelling or area of thickening
-
03Persistent pain or discomfort
-
04Unexplained weight loss or loss of appetite

06Unexplained fatigue, bleeding or other ongoing changes
These signs do not always mean cancer, but any new or persistent symptom should be assessed by a doctor.

Diagnosis & Staging
Assessment depends on the suspected tumour and may include imaging, laboratory investigations, biopsy and pathology. Additional molecular or biomarker testing may be appropriate for some tumours and can help guide systemic treatment. Staging helps determine whether the disease is localised or has spread to other parts of the body. A complete assessment is important because different solid tumours can require very different treatment strategies.
- 1
Imaging & laboratory investigations
Chosen according to the suspected tumour.
- 2
Biopsy
Obtains a tissue sample for diagnosis.
- 3
Pathology
Examines the tissue to establish the diagnosis.
- 4
Molecular & biomarker testing
May be appropriate for some tumours and can help guide systemic treatment.
- 5
Staging
Determines whether the disease is localised or has spread to other parts of the body.

Treatment Options
Treatment may involve surgery, radiation therapy and systemic therapies such as chemotherapy, targeted therapy or immunotherapy. Some tumours may require combinations of treatments, while others may be managed with a more specific treatment strategy based on their biology and stage.
Surgery
May form part of a combination of treatments.
Radiation therapy
May form part of a combination of treatments.
Systemic treatments
- Chemotherapy
- Targeted therapy
- Immunotherapy
Treatment is tailored to
- Confirmed diagnosis
- Biology and stage
- Individual clinical needs
The sequence and duration of treatment can vary considerably between cancers. Treatment is therefore tailored to the confirmed diagnosis and the patient’s individual clinical needs.

Dr. Taori’s Approach
Dr. Taori’s specialist practice includes solid tumour oncology, chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy. With experience across a broad range of solid tumours, he works with multidisciplinary teams to develop treatment strategies based on the individual cancer and the patient’s clinical needs. His approach considers the available pathology, stage and relevant tumour characteristics before systemic treatment is recommended. This supports coordinated cancer care when multiple specialists are involved.
- Experience across a broad range of solid tumours
- Considers pathology, stage and tumour characteristics before systemic treatment
- Works with multidisciplinary teams for coordinated care

Consultation
If you have a less common or complex solid tumour, a specialist medical oncology consultation can help clarify the diagnosis and available treatment options. Dr. Taori can review your clinical information and explain the potential role of systemic treatment within your overall cancer care.
